To customize a thread title, select the button that appears under "Subject:", that has a blue "T" on it.
A menu will appear, allowing you to change: The font, bold, italicize, strikethrough, and underline your title; You can also use the color smear function, which adds a gradient to your words. You can even add a background image to your title. To change the image, simply copy and paste the URL of the webpage the image is one into the box for "Background Image" on the text menu.

NOTE: This is a DISPLAY title changer only, and will show the effect only when on the board, not in the individual threads.
